Vladimir Nabokov

Hi People!!
I have a whole lot of catching up to do. I've been incapacitated a wee bit, but i'll read and try and finish Pnin. Sorry I don't have the book finished yet.
:)

Yay, Madeline! Good to hear from you. By all means finish Pnin! Hope you have been enjoying it so far.
Peder

Good morning all,
The plot in Glory begins to thicken, as they say. Thought I'd provide an intriguing hint down below, and also mention that I am about a third of the way through. The story goes well with coffee, I find -- probably with tea also -- with or without French crullers.

And your signature as well, steffee!
SIL, Steffee,
Very insightful, both of you.
That must be the glue that holds it together. :)
(Or breaks it apart :( )

Forgive me if I'm repeating myself here, but I just (re?) found this book:

"Alphabet In Color"

(The fancier features on my computer are refusing to work right now , so I'm having to post things the old plain and easy way.)
Oh thank you, oh great StillILearn!
And right after I had resolved to hold off on buying books for a while!
Worse yet, I just checked inventory on-line, and my local Borders actually has it! Now I know what that skinny little, tightly-wrapped book that I have been seeing on the shelf is all about. Don't know whether to laugh or cry. But at least I already have other plans for this afternoon.:)
Is there some little favor I can do for you in return? :D :D :D

But seriously, it sounds absolutely wonderful.
Mne tnx :) :) :)
Peder

PS Gonna change my logon name to StillIBuy.

To all,
Just checked "Alphabet in Colors" over on amazon. Sort of pricey for a thin book, but the colors may be well worth it. In combination with Strathern's "Nabokov in Ninety Minutes," though, the combination price doesn't sound so bad. But still it is two slender books.

In case anyone here buys by the pound
Peder

Hmmm. Thanks soooo much for sharing that information. /she said dryly with eyebrows raised to the hilt/

Just when I thought it was safe to go back in the water......

j/k j/k guys.....sorta, kinda, maybe.......:p

:D

And I have started it - honest I have. Hoping to fit in more reading but may have to confine it to bed-time reading as I have family from overseas for the next few weeks. What I've read so far is great - interesting reading about Martin's father - the two sides of the coin so to speak;)

And Peder it goes down a treat with a cup of hot coffee and a danish pastry:D

Breaca,
This novel seems, more than others IMO, to raise exactly the question of who in the novel resembles whom in real life. Why more than others of his novels? Perhaps because of the very great detail that VN lavishes upon the story in the early pages and which continues for quite a while. But also because in the introduction VN gives that summary of who's (like) who, and who isn't, which I think is the greatest number of hints that we have seen him give a reader. And he again comments on how misunderstood Russian emigres were by the western press. So some parts, at least, of what he writes we can recognize as definitely real. And Oh, BTW, he does not neglect a mention of Freud! :D
I'm now about half way and enjoying all the coffee and pastries. :) (As well as the book of course.)
Peder
