Vladimir Nabokov

I do actually have a couple of cake mixes in the kitchen cabinet....:D And even some Oatmeal with Cranberries Pepperidge Farm Cookies.....:p

It's the french way of making cakes, like the stuff they use to make chocolate eclairs and profiteroles.

(New York) French Crullers

Steffee, all

OMG OMG! I shouldn't even have looked at Pontalba's picture. I've already gained weight from it.

Google to the rescue couldn't provide a picture, but here's how you make them:

French Crullers I

or

French Crullers II

or

French Crullers III

Can never have enough recipes for French Crullers! :D

Up here they are the size and shape of a donut, lightly glazed, and with a frilled(?) shape as shown in Pontalba's picture. But much lighter than a donut I suppose because of being made of cream-puff batter, and maybe they puff up during deep fry -- they are mostly empty, and they go down very fast!

So how does that differ from a beignet? While we are on the subtopic which is a part of all threads? :D

What? Because there is no intelligent life down here?

present company excluded of course......;)

Er, omniescient being not very good at making oneself understood - too much time spent in the company of Pnin methinks. I meant, dear woman, beam me up and over to your place:D Since you have the kettle on and I've run out of teabags and my next consignment doesn't arrive for another 7 days!!

As for intelligent life - it's in plentiful supply around here - I am in awe (as much as an omniescent being can be:p )

Didn't you ever see the bumpersticker that said;
Beam me up Scotty, theres no intelligent life down here.

Beaming mechanism warming up....I wish..

Timofey would say "Square is not round."
And Joan Clements would say "But Timofey please try one."
The beignets look great also, and they are like puffed up pillow shapes?

Yes, served 3 at the time piping hot with powdered sugar on them. It never fails that I wear black, and get the powder all over myself. Also my favorite coffee and chicory is served with it. :D

TOES!

Pontalba. Yesterday, while out, I saw a jar of Coffee and Chicory essence! It's the first time I've ever seen such a thing. I almost took a picture of it right there, but the shop was packed. :D

Neat! Was it from The French Market Company? Or The American Coffee Co.? Glad to know you can get good coffee over there! :D btw, I noticed that our CDM (Cafe du Monde) coffee is made with French Chicory...la la!
